Crafty Pegs
Hand-made Beanies and Pin Cushions
Professional info
I'm a writer... but I'm also an artist. But writing came first. Art came late into my life as I was diagnosed with Epilepsy at age 19 (again), as I was born with it. So, my artworks and the books I write are my children and my family as well. I love what I do, how my artworks turn out and how much time I put into my work. There's other things I enjoy as well, such as gardening, cooking from scratch and collecting vinyls/records however, writing and art are the top two that are in my life.
Work experience
I haven't worked for over 20 years and have only been able to find volunteer work at the Logan Art Gallery since 1998. This has been a great place for me to find the best people - and I've loved being there, making the most wonderful friends.
1st, September, 2013 - I opened Crafty Pegs on Facebook. It was the most horrible day of my life and the best. I had been out to the Kingston Butter Factory and the Logan Art Gallery trying to sell 'The Original' Crafty Pegs to them, and neither place wanted them. One of my friends suggested I created a page on Facebook for my Crafty Pegs... thanks Sophia Cooper! Great suggestion!
November 2013 - I attended my first Creative Markets at Springwood. Very basic... very nervous person I was. And extremely tired too! I was up at 5am that day and finished at 1pm.
1st September 2014 - almost a year later, Crafty Pegs is still going strong. I wasn't not making as much money as I hoped, but then, the first few years of a hobby business is hard.
November 2014 - I stopped going to the Creative Markets and started attending Mamma-Mia's Mini Markets at Murarrie here in Brisbane; as well as other markets around Brisbane. People and places are getting to know me as time goes on. I'm really enjoying myself.
The future was looking brighter; and always will. I enjoy what I do - which is in the writing and artistic circles - and don't think I could be happier.

Education
However, I'm a self-taught person. I study up on something and learn my skills through life and use them when I need them. It's a great way to learn things without attending a college or doing a course, you learn much more through somebody who knows the skills and done the work, and you get hands-on experience - especially with art.

In 2015, I attended a needlepoint class at the Queen Beez Craft Group (which went for 10 weeks) and was run by one of the members there. I have successfully become very good at needlepoint and have been making tiny pin cushions to sell at my markets and at the Logan Art Gallery since.

It's 2018 and I'm currently attending my second year at art school at the Logan Artists Association and loving it! Working within the arts industry and with Aaron Pocock as well as other artistically-minded people is great! I'm learning to work with water-based oil paints on Mondays... and by night, I'm still working on my needlepoint and knitting. Yes, I'm enjoying a little of both worlds - but I'm only attending markets which invite me along because I'm asked for. Otherwise, I have packed away my market gear until further notice.
